Three Villages Bike Ride
Just a quick thing...
I have chosen not to use adverts, pop-ups, mailing lists, or mandatory subscriptions, but it means there is an ongoing cost for me in researching and writing content, and generally advocating for active travel - time spent not working! If you can throw a few pounds my way to help out, your support is gratefully received! Thank you!
A mostly road-based 9.5 mile ride taking in the Leicestershire villages of Higham-on-the-Hill, Stoke Golding and Dadlington, before ending at the Bosworth Battlefield Visitor Centre.
This ride features some climbs when arriving at the villages, but also some good downhill sections when leaving them, as a satisfying reward for the effort.
Route:
- Starting in Nuneaton, on the Roanne Ringway (A444), head towards and past the railway station (in this case, anti-clockwise via the Justice Centre).
- At the traffic lights, turn left to head over the railway bridge, continuing on the A444.
- Continue straight on to Weddington Road (A444).
- Pass the Rugby Club on the left, followed by a bus-stop.
- Very soon after the bus-stop, leave Weddington Road on the left, at the entrance to Sandon Park.
- Take the gravel path into Sandon Park. Follow this path, crossing the river at a footbridge.
- After the footbridge, turn left and follow the path.
- The path arrives at a junction just before heading under the railway. Turn right here.
- Join and follow Weddington Walk.
- Cross the A444 and continue on Weddington Walk.
- Cross under the A5 and turn right.
- At the end of the path, turn left to join Wood Lane.
- Continue on Wood Lane and arrive at Higham-on-the-Hill.
- Wood Lane turns into Main Street. Proceed through Higham-on-the-Hill.
- Take the first exit at the roundabout, onto Stoke Lane.
- At the crossroads, continue straight on, where the road becomes Higham Lane.
- Follow Higham Lane and arrive at Stoke Golding.
- At the end of the road (a T-Junction), turn right on to Station Road.
- As Station Road bends to the right, take the left turn on to High Street.
- Follow High Street as it turns into Stoke Road.
- Arrive at Dadlington.
- At the crossroads, turn left on to Hinckley Road.
- Pass The Green on the left, then turn right on to Sutton Lane.
- At the end of Sutton Lane (a T-junction), turn right onto Fenn Lanes.
- Cross the Ashby-de-la-Zouch Canal, and immediately turn left into Sutton Wharf Car Park.
- Cross the car park towards Sutton Wharf cafe. Pick up the trail for the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre (note: narrow path at points, heavy pedestrian use).
- Follow the path through Albion Woods (a private wood, so stay on the path).
- Leave Albion Woods and arrive at Bosworth Battlefield. Continue up the hill, passing the Visitor Centre on the right.
- End the route at the flag poles, near the sundial.
