Leicester Road Gyratory, Nuneaton

Cycling Afterthought for Leicester Road Changes

The latest plans to be released by Warwickshire County Council for the redevelopment of the Leicester Road Gyratory in Nuneaton (Vicarage Street, Back Street, Leicester Road) have been dubbed as an “ovalabout” in local press. While reports note so-called improvements for cycling, the actual published plan is motor-centric and poor for pedestrians and cyclists, failing to meet minimum standards and providing indirect routes.

Improving Cycle/Pedestrian Crossing Points

In Nuneaton, there is an advisory cycle lane that runs on the Weddington Road/A444 southbound towards the town. The lane is far from perfect – it’s advisory only, frequently has cars parked in it and is only paint not affording cyclists any real protection from motor traffic. In an ideal world, I’d see the whole route upgraded but I’ve decided
