Two-and-a-half years after Warwickshire County Council put out a junction redesign for consultation, construction of the car-centric updated junction at Greenmoor Road, College Street, and Heath End Road in Nuneaton is set to begin in the Summer of 2024.

It has been reported in the local news that following the acquisition of a small piece of land from Nuneaton’s George Eliot Hospital, the County Council will press on with developing improvements to a short length of path that will be able to better accommodate walking and cycling. But there’s a catch. According to the report, a Council spokesperson talks about “creating a shared footway cycleway” – not ideal for either user and not demonstrating best standards.

It has been reported that Warwickshire County Council is to revisit plans to redevelop one of Nuneaton’s roads, and some of the reasons for doing so are the publication of LTN 1/20 (the DfT’s latest guidance for designing cycle infrastructure) and the declarations of a climate emergency.

Warwickshire County Council is proposing to make changes to the junction of Greenmoor Road/Bull Ring/Heath End Road with the aim to improve traffic flow through the congested area. Currently operating as a mini-roundabout, the proposal is to provide traffic signals instead. With the scheme comes new crossing infrastructure for pedestrians – but no accommodation for cycling.
